VHA holds CME on GST in Health Care Sector

Hospital involved only in Diagnosing, treating and curing diseases need not apply for GST- CA Kirti Agarwal

More than 110 private hospitals of Vidarbha with total bed strength of more than 10000 have joined hands to form Vidarbha Hospitals Association which is aimed to help set quality standards, ensure cost effective quality health care to incoming needy patients, support statutory authorities to enhance the image of Nagpur as an exemplary health care destination and to protect the interests of private health care service providers. VHA is also member of District Health Coordination Committee chaired by Nagpur Guardian Minister.

To sensitise and guide health care service providers about GST; a lecture by CA Kirti Agrawal, B.Com., FCA, DISA (ICAI), National Faculty for GST by ICAI who is Partner- M/s Rakesh V. Agrawal & Co.   & Vice President- Choice Consulting Services Pvt Limited was organised by VHA on 2nd September 2017 in Jaivik Hall, Orange City Hospital & Research Institute. She addressed all doctors, healthcare sector accounts personnel and Pharmacists on the topic “Applications & Implications of GST in healthcare sector”. VHA had conceptualised this CME in view of the gross misconceptions prevailing amongst health care service providers about GST.

According to CA Kirti Agarwal; those hospitals and doctors who are involved only in curing, diagnosing and treating diseases need not apply for GST registration. However, GST registration is mandatory for hospital owned pharmacies. Healthcare services per se excluding beauty and cosmetic treatment done purely for beauty purposes are exempt from GST as on date.

At the outset, Dr. Uday Mahorkar, President-VHA welcomed CA Kirti Agarwal with good luck plant. Dr. Anup Marar, Secretary- VHA introduced the speaker while Dr. Anil Jaiswal chaired the meet. Dr. Sameer Paltewar, Treasurer –VHA proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Avinash Pophali & Dr. Shantanu Sengupta coordinated the interactive session. Dr. Deepak Deshmukh assisted by Shri.Ganesh Iyer worked hard for the success of this undertaking. Hospital owners welcomed this VHA initiative to sensitise medical community about new rules and regulations. Shortly VHA proposes to hold a talk on Building plan and parking norms.
