Recently, a Pediatric Bronchoscope EB-530P, Super-slim Pediatric bronchoscope with an impressively thin external diameter of 3.8 mm combined with a 1.2 mm biopsy channel has been commissioned at OCHRI Department of Pediatrics & Pediatric Surgery. Ideal for use in pediatrics, this bronchoscope is equipped with the newest technologies including the ultra-small, Super CCD chip technology, dual light guides, improved tip layout and a single-use suction button. This device facilitates insertion into the peripheral bronchial segments.
Dr. Deepak Goel, OCHRI Pediatric Surgeon said that “Flexible Bronchoscopy is an important procedure for evaluating the pediatric airway, vocal cords, trachea, bronchi and bronchioles. While child is under sedation, a flexible bronchoscope is passed through the nose or mouth into the lungs. The bronchoscope is a special instrument with a tiny camera that allows the pediatric pulmonologist/Pediatric surgeons to view the anatomy through the scope and on a video monitor. The bronchoscope is designed to allow other procedures, such as Broncho alveolar lavage (washing), Trans bronchial biopsy (small pieces of tissue are removed), endobronchial ultrasound, electrocautery or laser treatments.”
Bronchoscopy may be done for Persistent stridor, Persistent wheezing, Hemoptysis, Suspicion of a foreign body, Persistent or recurring atelectasis, Persistent or recurring pneumonia and Localized pulmonary hyperluscency.
