Nagpur based Orange City Hospital & Research Institute (OCHRI) is a hospital which is continually improving the health care delivery system. Recently, NABH has granted FULL accreditation to OCHRI wherein they will now display Mark of excellence- NABH Accredited Hospital. National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) is a constituent board of Quality Council of India, set up to establish and operate accreditation program for healthcare organizations.
The NABH final Assessment was completed at OCHRI on September 2017.On 12th March 2018; NABH office has conveyed that OCHRI has been granted NABH FULL accreditation. This is a remarkable achievement for a 150 bedded multi-super speciality hospital with varied scope of services & specialities with a large panel of doctors. The uniqueness of this endorsement lies in the fact that OCHRI ventured to proceed directly for attainment of FULL accreditation without going through customary entry level channel in single stroke with no re-inspection which itself is an historic accomplishment.
Dr. Vidya Nair, who is heading the Quality division at OCHRI since her return after graduating in MBA (Health Care Management) from Johns Hopkins University, USA; has devoted the past two years in the process of implementing the guidelines laid down by NABH. Highlighting this undertaking, Dr. Vidya Nair said that usually many hospitals initially apply for pre entry level accreditation which is enough to satisfy the needs of stakeholders like CGHS, MP Government and government companies etc. Pre Accreditation Entry Level standards contains requirements which is almost one- fourth of the FULL accreditation standards. Subsequently they can proceed to Progressive level and later on contemplate on Full accreditation. However, OCHRI proceeded directly for FULL accreditation. The inspection team had noticed that OCHRI’s bed occupancy levels were very high and were availing accreditation purely for quality sake and not to attract CGHS patients.
Dr. Priya Laddha- OCHRI Quality Control Officer said that Hospitals are an integral part of health care system. Accreditation is the single most important approach for improving the quality of hospitals and is an incentive to improve capacity of national hospitals to provide quality of care.
Dr. Deepak Dongre, SMO I/c and OCHRI Quality team member explained that four basic criteria for NABH towards a hospital are quality, safety, ethics and legal perspectives. OCHRI has an inbuilt robust system since long to ensure the same. He also explained about the standard “P’s” I.e. Process, plan, procedure, protocol, program and policy which form a part of any system made applicable at OCHRI.
Sr. Jessy Abraham- Nursing Incharge, Sr. Rahel Patrange and Sr. Shincy Jenson- Infection Control Nurses who are part of OCHRI Quality team commended the enthusiasm amongst all OCHRI doctors and staff members to partake in this accreditation journey to endorse all the indigenous Protocols made applicable since long at OCHRI and had led to distinct goodwill in Central India.
Dr. Anup Marar- OCHRI Director mentioned that NABH accreditation helps patients in confirming high quality of care and patient’s safety by getting services by credentialed staff with protection of their rights and regular evaluation of their satisfaction. Moreover, this accreditation also helps the staff as it provides continuous learning, good working environment, ownership of service processes and improves overall professional development of staff and provides leadership for quality improvement in various techniques.
Dr. Usha Nair, Director- RNHPL added that NABH full accreditation helps a Health Care Organisation (HCO) in stimulating continuous improvement, demonstrating commitment to quality of care, raising community confidence in the services provided and provides opportunity to benchmark with the best.
Shri.Udaybhaskar Nair, Chairman- Nairsons Group thanked all OCHRI family members for their untiring efforts in representing OCHRI as a team that qualifies to move forward and become a much better quality health care provider.
