Recently a Mock drill of Fire emergency & rescue was organized at Orange City Hospital & Research Institute, Nagpur. As part of the “Mock Fire drill”, a mock scenario of fire was created in CCU 4 based in 3rd floor to test the efficacy of Disaster Management Plan. Evacuation and shifting of patients to safe place was effectively coordinated. During the drill, all concerned teams of Code Red actively participated in various defined roles. Fire drill is a method of practicing the evacuation of a building for a fire or other emergency. Usually, the emergency system (the fire alarm/smoke detector) sounds and the building is evacuated as though a real fire had occurred. Mock Fire drill to check the safety preparedness was coordinated at OCHRI under the supervision of Shri. Roy Thomas, GM (HR) and Shri Issac Sinha, Head-Quality Control-OCHRI. Shri. Avinash Ganar declared the code Red. On this occasion, Shri.Roy Thomas sated that the primary objective of the drill was to evaluate and check the efficacy and adequacy of resources to be required during any disaster and promptness of various response teams and for further improvement in emergency preparedness systems. This drill is essential in all public or work places for practicing what to do in the event of a fire and is conducted on regular basis at OCHRI. Dr.Anup Marar, Director- OCHRI highlighted that Fire drills are an opportunity to practice evacuation procedures to make sure all staff are familiar with them. They get staff used to exiting a building quickly and therefore in a real life situation panic will be reduced, as everyone will know what they need to do. Fire drills are also useful for testing escape routes to evaluate their effectiveness. During fire drills, checks can also be carried out on alarm systems to ensure they are working correctly and that emergency exits are unobstructed. Overall fire drills help improve safety, so that you will be best prepared if a real fire does occur. Shri. Pankaj Wadaskar led the team of Fire Fighting and brought the fire under control, while Shri.Dayaram Nimbarte- Nursing In charge led the rescue team and evacuated the patients to safe place. Patients were rescued manually by Security & Housekeeping staff with various techniques like fireman lift method by one person, stretcher carrying two persons and using wheel chair. Salvage team comprising housekeeping staff and security members completed removal of articles from the incident site and preserved at a designated location. Nursing Team provided medical support to patients during transportation to designated assembly area. After completion of all activities Code red all clear was announced. Smt. Priya Sashi, Shri. Sunil Sure, Sr. Rahel Patrange, Shri. Prashant Gondane, Shri.Tuvarsh Shambarkar, Sr. Shamsunisa and Shri.Tulsiram Dhurve led the respective teams during the mock drill. |
